Often characterized as an ice-encased world, its surface is not merely a frozen sphere but a dynamic, geologically active crust scarred by a network of planetary-scale fractures. The moon’s physical appearance is dominated by a high-albedo surface of water ice, punctuated by reddish-brown features that trace the chaotic history of the crust’s interaction with the interior. The surface geography is defined by three primary formations: the linea, or linear features; the lenticulae, or spots; and the chaos regions.
