Unlike the spherical, tidally locked moons that populate the inner reaches of the gas giant’s domain, Hyperion is a study in structural irregularity. It is one of the most porous objects in the Solar System, a jagged chunk of water ice and rock that appears less like a natural satellite and more like a celestial sponge.
