An Island of Cosmic Turbulence NGC 1569 is a cosmic anomaly—a pint-sized dwarf galaxy that punches far above its weight class in terms of stellar productivity. Located approximately 11 million light-years away in the northern constellation of Camelopardalis, this irregular dwarf galaxy spans a mere 5,000 light-years across. Despite its diminutive stature, it is currently undergoing one of the most intense and sustained starburst episodes observed in the local universe. For the past 25 million years, NGC 1569 has been manufacturing stars at a rate nearly a hundred times faster than our own Milky Way, transforming its interior into a chaotic cauldron of newborn suns, raging stellar winds, and expanding bubbles of superheated gas.
