The Frigid Red Surface and Extreme Orbit of Sedna
In the far outer reaches of the Solar System, well beyond the conventional boundaries of the Kuiper Belt , lies 90377 Sedna —a distant dwarf planet candidate whose extreme orbit continuously challenges theories of planetary dynamics. Discovered in November 2003 by astronomers Michael E. Brown , Chad Trujillo, and David Rabinowitz using the Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory, Sedna was immediately recognized as an anomaly. Moving through a region of space previously thought to be largely vacant, Sedna's presence signaled the existence of a vast, previously unseen population of icy worlds residing in the inner margins of the Oort Cloud .
